AFRICAN DANCE & DRUM CLASSES IN CENTRAL NEW YORK
African Dance and Drum – Exercise Has
Never Been So Fun!
African
Dance |
There
are NO pre-requisites to take an African dance class. It
doesn’t matter if you’ve ever danced a day in
your life. Whether you know it or not, each person has rhythm.
If you have a heartbeat, you have rhythm. If you can walk,
you can dance. Taking an African dance class is just like
participating in an aerobics class. The instructor begins
the class with a 20- to 25-minute warmup which includes
stretching and strengthening, allowing the body to wake
up and be prepared for movement. |

The
instructor then collectively teaches the class the different
aerobic movements and together the students exercise / dance.
Each class is made up of all different levels, ages and
styles. What’s unique to an African dance class is
being able to move your body to the beat of live drums while
also having a cultural experience. In Biboti's African dance
class, you will learn the name of the dance, its place of
origin and its meaning. Coupled with culture and diversity,
the energy of the drums and the joys of the students involved
in an African dance class take away the struggle that many
people face while “exercising.” African dance
puts the FUN back into exercise.
“To
take our regular African dance class, you’ll be giving
yourself traditional medicine. You’ll feel good in
your skin, and when you feel good in your skin, you have
found a kind of balance that makes you feel good about yourself.
When you feel good about yourself, your ability to share
your love with others is better.” - Biboti Ouikahilo

My
Words of Encouragement
In this world, everybody is always learning. So,
for me, we are all students. No matter who we
are, where we are today or where we’ll be
in the future, we will still be students. We are
always learning, discovering and searching for
something — from someone or somewhere. Even
if we become a teacher or have our own business,
we always want to expand on what we know and increase
our abilities. So, for me, if someone wants to
try something new, they should not say, “I
really want to try, but I’m embarrassed
because what if it doesn’t go with me? What
will other people think of me? What if other people
laught at me?” Please, we don’t have
to think this way. I know that it’s not
always easy for someone to try something new.
Otherwise, I know that some people want to try
and discover this art, but it’s because
of that feeling which gnaws away at their thinking
that prevents them from taking the first step.
The best way to let go of that feeling is by being
courageous enough to follow your heart’s
desire.
Do
not scare about what you want to do
Be yourself no matter what they say
Do not be ashamed to follow your heart
Be concentrated
Trust yourself
And believe in yourself |
